The digital I/O modules (DIOM) can be used to connect up to 16 intrinsically safe digital signals. All channels can be used in pairs as inputs for passive contacts or NAMUR proximity switches (EN 60947-5-6) or as outputs for low-power solenoid valves or Ex i indicator lamps.

Up to eight inputs can be used as frequency inputs/counters up to 20 kHz, and up to four inputs can be used in the “Rotation direction recognition” and “Forwards/backwards counter” operating modes. The Ex i inputs/outputs are short-circuit proof and galvanically separated from the system.

A blue LED and diagnostic messages provide early warnings that maintenance is required in order to avoid system downtime.
The Zone 1 versions have additional LEDs for each channel to indicate any line faults and the switching state.
